Several years ago, the word "Rockstar" popped into my mind to describe my speaker and storytelling programs. Yes, it was my vision that every one of my students would become stars in whatever they chose to accomplish through speaking. What I really meant, though, was the energetic experience of a concert.
Imagine this: The music pulsing out of the sound system is so loud you can literally feel the vibrations moving through your body. You sense that the whole room is wrapped up together in power of the rhythm. You can feel the exuberant energy in the people pressed all around you, like you are all one unit pulsing to the music.
Exhilarating and memorable, right? That's the power of energy!
My goal was teaching how to create that vibration where people would be able to feel you, not just hear you—not just taking in a bunch of words but feeling in their bodies your story and how it related to their lives, in their hearts, and in their own energy field (qi).
Because of the nature of how I teach, people found themselves delving deeper into healing power than they'd ever expected. The power centered on how they valued and honored the lessons of their own stories, and they often experienced personal transformation from victim to champion, from power-less to power-full.
The impact on their audiences was also palpable and lasting. I would host storytelling showcases for my students to present in front of audiences, so I saw firsthand the audiences being moved, silently spellbound or calling out agreement, laughing in all the right places of the story – and then chattering among themselves animatedly as they left, contacting the speaker or me with enthusiastic feedback or to continue the connection.
I watched with love and pride as these wonderful storytellers received responses far beyond what they'd expected, the kind of positive impact and difference they wanted or imagined, but never realized they might actually make.
The healing power of storytelling was happening both internally and externally for these students. They were learning to show up with both the outer expression of their message AND the inner experience of who they are. Because of the decades of theater and improv experience I bring to my teaching, they also learned how to connect their message to their body movements and actions—showing, not just telling.
Now I call my method Your Power Presence, because it's about you! You have the story inside, I just help you bring it out, and to tap into your deepest passion, full-bodied presence and confidence so you deliver your message in its most engaging and impactful way.
